X3642 EH. from EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c. to Im c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}1/F27.9.19. Re. Inspection of Front Engine Silencer. ------------------------------------ We have always had a considerable amount of trouble with the front spring shackle pin catching the silencer. The clearance here, even at the best, is only very small, and invariably the silencer appears to alter its position; on several cars it has actually been damaged by the shackle catching it when the car has been in use on the road. I have on various occasions made requests that the position of the silencers be lowered slightly, and again bring this matter forward for your consideration. Meantime, will Mr. Bailey please instruct the works for this point to have a definite amount of minimum clearance before chassis come on test. EP.{G.
