We thank you for your BY/CGH{W Clough}4/G23829., and note that by accident the raised step irons have been standard-ised on chassis 51 in "O.{Mr Oldham}"series, and onwards. If we cannot have longer tubes or a new plate, what you suggest on F56593. would appear to be inevitable. We think however we should have a new aluminium shoe which will pinch the edge of the step rubber, as indicated in pencil. We are anticipating a reply from the Exp. Dept. to our suggestions made some weeks ago for stiffening the carrier, and should new tubes or a new plate be required we suggest that the wheel be raised the .250" to avoid the difficulty. We presume from your remarks that some cars will be delivered with the original carrier. We note your suggestion of increasing the dia. of the face of the aluminium centre piece which beds against the plate. This will increase the controlling base, but when the wheel is on the rear carrier the whole of the face, which is usually scarred, will not be covered by the plated disc of the fixing bolt, and may have a bad appearance.
