The construction of the pump is as follows.-
The pistons are driven by connecting rods, which are in turn driven by eccentrics made solid on a shaft which is dropped into half bearings on the stanchions, and held down by motorcar or aero engine steel crank bearing caps, secured by long bolts formed of screwed rod running right through the stanchions, and the cast iron box which forms the base plate casting. The sketch gives a rough idea of the construction of the pump.

The base plate casting should be of cellular construction with cells in accordance with the number of cylinders. The cross head guides can be on the cylinders, which should be of bronze. The cross heads would be of circular form, larger in diameter than the pistons themselves, mfxdekkixeryxxakkexesnxexkthexpexpxpxykkkdsrs When used for the crankshaft torsion experiment, connection should be made direct to the oil cylinders themselves, and the ordinary type of delivery valves on the pump cylinders, provided for other experiments, should be used as relief valves limiting the maximum pressure imposed on the aero engine cylinders.
