It is of the utmost importance when producing 'L' shape rings to finish grind the rings before the 'L' formation at the back. If the ring is produced in an 'L' shape, and then ground, its qualities as a scraper ring are negligible. The D.O. should add a note to the drawing to the effect that when producing these rings they must be ground with the rectangular section formed and the 'L' shape produced by turning after grinding i.e. the formation of the 'L' is to be the last operation.
