Hotel de France. Chateauroux. Indre. To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} From G.W.H. I. B. IV. 12.8.33 We have resumed our mileage to-day. We are not quite satisfied with the delivery of the electrical pumps as yet but hope to overcome the trouble. We have fitted the two pumps behind the last cross member ie. between the battery box and the frame. We found that the small dia. pipe allready fitted would not pass sufficient petrol, so we fitted the standard 1/4 piping, then we found the flexible piping choked the supply so we had to do away with that piping. At the present moment we can maintain 85 M.P.H., but no more, Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} said the pumps had run a considerable time and he did not know what condition they were in. They are in a very poor position and are not working as they should. The position of the pumps however make a big difference and having to push the petrol along slows them up considerably. We believe this can be overcome and obtain a satisfactory working condition. There was no trouble with vapourizing during the mornings early run. We have waited to complete the afternoon's run before dispatching this memo. The Air Temp. during this afternoons run has been 35°C; Oil 120°C; Water 98°C boiled when car stopped. Under these conditions there has been no sign of failure due to vapourisation either whilst running or after stopping for 6 min. Under the same conditions last week with the petrol pump there was a complete failure. Unfortunately one of the electrical pumps ceases to function occasionally whilst travelling at the maximum speed. We are expecting to receive the new axle tubes Sunday, having urged all concerned to pay special attention in forwarding the case along. [Signature of G.W. Hancock] G.W.H.
