X.4215 EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 3/T21.3.21. To R. {Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} c. to CJ. c. to E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Ds. c. to Hy. {Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} X.3958 - R.R. CUT-OUT. X.4215 X.1815 Should we not consider the design of an R.R. electrical cut-out concurrently with that of R.R. dynamos ? At present the only cut-outs known to us as possibly suitable for the R.R. car are the Bleriot and Smith. The Bleriots were very good in the first two samples, of which you have one, and another on 6 EX but a further batch of six received since those, have been erratic in their behaviour apparently due, as we found out in two cases by unsealing these, to not being correctly and tightly assembled, for which reason we have had to return these to the makers as we could not pass these for fitting to experimental cars, except two which we made right in our Expl. Dept. and have fitted to 2 EX and to one of EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} 's test cars. Comparative costs in quantity of the Lucas, Bleriot and Smith cut-outs are being obtained.
