Dear Sirs, We herewith beg to confirm the following agreements arrived at with regard to the manufacture of Laminated Springs - Goshawk ll, at your works on February/21st. between Messrs. Whitehead, Bailey Wortley Fawcett, Mark Firth, and Stanfield. 1. It was agreed that Thos. Firth & Sons should design and manufacture some sample sets of springs with a poundage of 550 and 900 lbs. respectively for front and rear springs, this being the same poundage as those designed and manufactured recently by Messrs. Woodhead, so that the comparison between the two will be easier. 2. In designing these springs Thos. Firth & Sons are to keep strictly to Messrs. Rolls-Royce dimensions as regards:- (a). Length of spring. (b). Width of spring. (c). Normal load. (d). Load camber. a slight latitude is allowed as regards :- (e). Camber of leaves. (f). Number of leaves. (g). Total thickness of leaves. (h). Thickness of master leaf. 3. The ends of each leaf are to be of such a shape so as to leave a large bearing surface, to prevent squeaking. The amount of taper in thickness to be left to Thos. Firth & Sons. We should also like to take the opportunity of confirming that we have stopped all work, and have put on one side the springs which we have partially manufactured to your design which have proved to be unsatisfactory, and which we are afraid (CONT'D) | ||
