on account of this fault, and that Production were always successful in overcoming it.
Suggestions for dealing with this trouble, pending results of the above experiments, are contained in the test specification.

(b) Variation in output

This trouble occurs chiefly in the form of a reduction in the output of some machines, which have satisfactorily passed their bench tests, after they have been fitted to chassis, and travelled some miles.

Again our impression was that comparatively few had to be returned to Production, who, invariably got them right. Their explanation of this phenomenon was that the bedding of the control brushes had altered, two distinct beddings being observed. Their remedy was merely to rebed the brushes, when, it was claimed, the bedding, and the output, were restored and subsequently maintained. We concluded that it was faulty bedding in the first instance, during the bench test.
