L R P X 204 TO HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} COPY TO RE BODIES FOR BENTLEY. I understand over the telephone that Sales may be coming to Derby during the coming week to see the Bentley cars which you have on the road with a view to arriving at a decision concerning the bodies for the Show and Demonstration Cars, and for the Stock Cars. If you will let me know when this is to be I will arrange to be in Derby. In this connection I suggest that it would be a great help if you could delay their coming until the open car is finished so far as the mounting of the body, wings, radiator and bonnet are concerned as Sales wish to see this car before deciding whether this design shall be adopted as a Stock Car or not. As the body is to be mounted on Monday next it would appear that this procedure might be possible. Sales have taken certain decisions in connection with the coachwork for the Bentley but these have not been communicated to me as it is considered that my connection with the coachwork ceases with the completion of the Experimental Cars. The last that I heard unofficially was that chassis will be distributed to coachbuilders for Olympia and that they are to be allowed to exercise their ingenuity in producing individualistic coachwork. Our stand will have three or four bodies of which some will be the standardised design. I suggest that it would be a great help if on this visit you could bring home to the Sales the effect that heavy bodies will have on this car. | ||
