To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from EFC. C.c. Mr. Hancock, C. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} S E C R E T. x8790 E.A.C. RFC2/T27.5.24. X.9790 - MAGNETO FOR E.A.C. x4187 Mr. Watson of the M.L. Company duly came yesterday but not Mr. Lister. I got on quite well with Mr. Watson and I think he has a very clear idea as to what we require. Of course they have nothing like it at the moment, but he is going back to thoroughly consider the matter and will let us know if they propose to do anything. The great thing of course is to be able to get a suitable automatic advance, and it may be desirable to arrange to have the automatic advance to advance the whole magneto. This is the defect in the Scintilla magneto, as the automatic advance only advances the contact breaker and distributor, and actually it results in low speed sparking characteristics at retard not being as good as our present standard Watford. It cross your note it Mr. Hancock Alternatively, if a magneto could be constructed with the movable sleeve and Scintilla type of advance, that would be another way of meeting the case. Mr. North told me that the mechanism of the Scintilla advance was not mechanically very good. We do not, however, know of any trouble with it so far, and I think this must be taken for what it is worth. Therefore I will arrange to see with Mr. Hancock to do this. Contd. | ||
