R.R. 493A (40 H) (SL 42 12-7-23). J.H., D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} EXPERIMENTAL REPORT. ORIGINAL. Expl. No. 9940 REF: HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AG/24.11.23. c from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to CJ. c. to Rg.{Mr Rowledge} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FRONT WHEEL BRAKES. We have tested an experimental chassis fitted with front wheel brakes with the torque arms fitted to the front axle and to a centre sphere approximately under the flywheel. The operating mechanism was arranged as we had it originally. The effect on the road was that the brakes worked sweetly and effectively both forward and backward. One could notice when operating the brake that the pressure could be graduated nicely. One could feel the effect of the pedal pressure being communicated direct to the brakes instead of via flexible mountings. The steering on the corners was not affected by the braking except, of course, with front wheel skids. We are now fixing to the car parallel control rods which were instructed from WW.
