With reference to the above car, I believe our Mr. Cliburn discussed with you the trouble which is being experienced with constant loss of tappet clearance, and your suggestion was that we should supply and fit a new set of exhaust valves.

Unfortunately this trouble has existed more or less since the car was new, and in November last we supplied and fitted 6 new exhaust valves in an endeavour to overcome the trouble. The owner states that things are no better, and after almost every long run they find the tappet clearance has gone. The car is used mostly for fast runs between Coventry and London.

I am wondering whether you could possibly produce 6 exhaust valves of some other material experiementally so that we can fit them to this engine and then observe their behaviour, as we do not think it would be much good changing the valves again for ordinary standard ones.

Perhaps you will be good enough to let us have your views.
