Revised Handbrake - Senior Range.

On PL.224 (2 prints herewith) we shew our scheme for a hand brake having a tubular section based on the model fitted to 12.B.V.

The tubular section has to stop somewhere about the position shown for the gauge of tube (.064) used because of the bending moment. The gauge would be prohibitive if the tube went to the fulcrum base.

The existing Bowden Pawl control of GCD.1366 is maintained, but the release is operated by a grip instead of a button.

Although we would have liked to have increased the ground clearance of the lever to overcome piled snow cutting on the hand brake, we can do nothing all the while the lever arm must be below the floor and the stroke must not be reduced.

A shield would appear to be the only solution.

The ratchet mounting has been simplified and improved mechanically. We think that the ratchet should be made of plate steel by blanking, the bolt stops, the grinding and the glazing should be avoided if at all possible.

We have decided to try to avoid the "square" fixing for the lever, and still to have a handbrake which can be removed from the car when the body is still on.

We have decided to avoid the square fixing for the handbrake, and have used the construction of the front damper shaft. The same Knurling tool can be used.

The brake lever bearing has been reduced in length by .500 so as to simplify the machining of the faces on the forging which are in line.
