1263. EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/JBD.{John B. Dixon - Fuel Systems}14/JH. 19th. April, 1939. The S.U. Carburetter Co.Ltd., East Works, Bordesley Green Road, Adderley Park, BIRMINGHAM.8. For the attention of Mr. Cooper. Dear Sirs, In answer to your telephoned urgency of yesterday regarding olive joint fittings for the petrol pumps, we are willing to accept your standard thread & gas in the pump body provided that you are willing to supply these fitted to the pump. Our difficulty is that on the rest of the pipe line we have our standard joints with 5/8 20 thread and unless the pumps are supplied already fitted with connections confusion is bound to occur as the pump will be assembled at our Works. We enclose prints of the Olive joint connection we had intended to use for your guidence and hope you will be able to obtain similar fittings with the exception of the thread which screws into the pump. An alteration in the outside appearance of the joint would be advisable to help us to differentiate between the two types in service. We believe these fittings are made by Benton & Stone Ltd. Incidently we use two different size fittings for the inlet and delivery, the delivery being 5/16" pipe and the suction 3/8" dia. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
