RE 1.EX CAR. 40/50

Typed Text:
With reference to the thud on this engine, we found this was due to the front cylinder block being loose. Some of the nuts were half a turn slack. As we have never known a case of the cylinder block coming loose when once being properly tightened up, we can only assume that the nuts had never been properly tightened when the engine was down to fit the 6-ringed pistons. Because of them not being properly tightened they gradually worked more slack with running.

Whilst we have the car here we are fitting to it the Thermostat Control and the new type Magneto Drive.

I propose bringing this car to West WitteringHenry Royce's home town arriving there the first thing on Wednesday morning the 20th. inst.

We shall bring on the car samples of the new lock ignition switch, new Distribution Board, parts of the 3-speed Gearbox for the 40/50 chassis and Goshawk gearbox complete.
