18th. October 1937.

For the attention of Mr. H.E.Herrington.

Dear Mr. Herrington,

With reference to your letter of 16th. inst., we are despatching six bearings to the Leyland Co., to-day. We had hoped to be able to supply the full twelve sets but unfortunately the last machining operation brought out several blow holes. We have decided to scrap all but the six sets mentioned. We thought it better to do this than run the risk of having the bearings possibly condemned on sight. We believe the bearings would possibly have worked quite satisfactorily, but not being for our own experimental use, decided to re-cast them.

We have written to Leylands explaining the position.

Yours faithfully,

for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
