X.3900b. RE SPRINGS FOR AMERICAN CHASSIS. X.2628b.

We have, in another report, given the life of the modified springs, on the Bump test also the performance on the road. We have held up the American Factory from ordering any rear springs. We think it is essential that we should allow them to go on with something. Taking all points into consideration we recommend that America should fit to their chassis out there, rear springs identical to those we used before the war. The advantage in using those springs we consider are as follows:-
1. They are a proved type.
2. They are undoubtedly much less likely to break. We think this is a very important point when one realises the very bad-road and rough conditions the cars are expected to work under in America.
3. The springs we used before the war had not the same trouble we have at present with regard to squeaking.

The pre-war spring is the only spring we think is suitable to recommend for American production immediately
We think it is necessary that some information on springs should be cabled to American immediately.
