Y6080 By/RD. from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.3AD10.11.31. ALUMINIUM BRONZE STARTER MOTOR PINION. We have now tested this pinion on one of our laboratory P.2. sequence starter motors and send it to you herewith for your examination. It will be seen that the ends of the teeth cannot stand up to the teazer engaging force, this pinion only having been given 500 starts whereas our standard steel pinion will stand 20,000 starts. Naturally the flywheel gear ring has been saved from damage, but too much at the expense of the pinion. As regards loading on the teeth this pinion appeared quite satisfactory as in addition to running overloaded we tested it stalled with a 10% overload on the brake.
