To Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Cr.{Mr Cra???ster / Mr Chichester} URGENT. Will you please fill in on this sheet what tests you consider a new chassis should go through before going onto production, i.e. on the road, on the dynamometer and other test apparatus, with special regard to the sections you are responsible for. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Cr.{Mr Cra???ster / Mr Chichester} Engine Unit (a) Run as a unit on test bed 10 hrs endurance 7hrs full throttle, 2hrs 1/2 load, 1hr 1/4 load. The above at an oil inlet temperature of 100°c. (b) Carry out 50 cycles of cold starts whilst on bed, to reveal weaknesses in the head construction (if any). (c) 5,000 miles in traffic conditions (Overhauling etc) (d) 10,000 miles high speed running on broad test (e) 15,000 miles normal road testing as per exptl garage. (f) Finally a maximum speed test on Brooklands of 50 miles. The latter will reveal any mechanical weakness partially developed in the former running. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/SWDL{Len H. Swindell} | ||
