Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/AD34. 2. 32. 25- HP. GEAR RATTLES We have reported in our Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Cry.2/MAL5.2.32 that we have been able to overcome gear rattles on the 25 HP. by the addition of a small friction damper mounted at the back of the gear box. We want to be able to apply this damper to customer's cars when they get into trouble. At the present time the method of reducing these rattles is to endeavour to take up most of the slacks which is very expensive and also very unsatisfactory. Our tests have shown that the fabric coupling between the engine and gear box will overcome this fault but we cannot apply this to existing cars. The damper cannot cause any harm because our tests have shown that there can be a wide variation in the friction when it is still effective and even if it becomes solid it is still better than without it. At the present time we have one customer's car in and a lot of time has been spent in changing the axle, propeller shaft and gear box without any result but the damper overcomes the trouble and we wish to send the car away with this fitted. We are therefore issuing a standardisation sheet so that we can adopt this cure where necessary. DE. | ||
