We have run on the bumping rig a pair of the latest road springs we have received from Messrs. Woodhead. These are the springs which have no nibs and slots and the surfaces are ground between each leaf. These springs have run for 30 hours on the bump rig without any failure. This, as far as they have gone, shows them to be a very great improvement on the springs with nibs and slots. The item now outstanding against springs is to overcome the squeaking of the leaves. We are not convinced that this has been overcome by the grinding of the plates because we find the end of the spring still beds hard. When we ran these springs without nibs and slots we only had the usual clips which we have used on the springs which have nibs and slots. During the 30 hours run on the bumping test, there was no signs of the plates moving sideways. We consider that the centre clips on the rear springs with the one clip, does effectively control the plate sideways.
