in the following order:-
(a) Engines which are under 2-LW standard.
(b) Engines of 2-LW standard.

4. No further cars are to leave coachbuilders unless they have engines of 2-LW standard.

5. No chassis are to leave the works unless they have engines of 2-LW standard.

6. It is important that any chassis which are delivered to customers with engines of 2-LW standard should be accompanied by one of Mr. Hanbury's staff. The usual course of inspection may be suspended in order that the following programme may be carried out:-

When a car is delivered to the owner, the inspector will explain to the owner and to the chauffeur that it is fitted with pistons which we do not consider are passable inasmuch as they knock whilst the engine is cold; we had no intention of delivering the chassis with these pistons but had intended to substitute pistons from which this knocking had been eliminated.

The inspector if possible should be driving a car which is fitted with split pistons and which he can demonstrate to the owner but can explain to the owner that, rather than suspend him further as regards delivery, we had delivered the car for temporary purposes with pistons which are not up to the R.R. standard simply because we could not obtain the satisfactory pistons OWING TO THE MOULDERS' STRIKE.

Dwell heavily on the moulders' strike as being the cause of this trouble.

Show the owner if possible the running of the engine with the split pistons, or, if the inspector has not such an engine to show, invite the owner to hear such an engine running at the nearest possible point and the earliest possible date.

Tell the owner that, when the moulders' strike is over and we have been able to obtain sufficient pistons for the engines we shall be happy to fit the new pistons at our cost and to his convenience.
