X.3757. Expl: Dept: Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. X.3443-2EX chassis x.3757 3.3.20. Dear Maddocks, With reference to the pistons rattling on your car, if you get the opportunity, I should lift the cylinders on the car to find out the cause of this. We think you will undoubtedly find it is due to the top band of the piston binding in the carbon, formed in the top of the cylinder. We think that if you clean the carbon off the top of the cylinder bore and scrap all the carbon off the top band of the piston, that it will be alright. Another point we are anxious to know, is whether those pistons have the big clearance on the top band thus:- (Diagram of a piston head with a note pointing to a recess saying 'turned clear') We think there is a possibility of this being omitted on those pistons - we should like you to let us know this. Have you heard anything yet when you are likely to be returning.? Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD., | ||
