From Mr. Royce regarding alterations to the priming device on a 40/50 HP chassis.

While chassis 7 CA was at Wittering Mr. Royce found that the primer handle was excessively stiff to work and on investigation discovered a third spring in the driving tube not shewn on our drawing of this device, LeC.316, the function of which was apparently to prevent possible rattle due to the end clearance of the driving-tube. This extra spring intensifies unfortunately, the friction of both the cock plug on the dash and on the induction pipe. Mr. Royce wishes you to make this priming device so that it will turn more easily and considers the third spring should be removed, as being unnecessary and undesirable. Further, the strength of the cock springs themselves should be reduced, or the angles of the plug cones increased. Would you kindly have a car fitted up as above as early as possible, with a view to standardising these alterations to the priming device. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
