Conference on Knock in Phantom Engine - 28th. November, 1927. Present : WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} for Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} MX.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} Cgh.{W Clough} for BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Mr. Archer for EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} It was arranged that MX.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} should hand over to Experimental Department a Chassis on which the knock could be heard, and that the Experimental Department should start investigations to try and overcome the fault. All who attended the Conference, and had heard the knock, agreed that it is elusive, and when it can be heard it is very difficult to pick out because it is so slight. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} is apparently of the same opinion - hence EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}2/H24.11.27. It was agreed that the knock is made more audible where deep scuttles are employed. Pending some results from the Experimental Dept. it was thought that our Sales Dept. representatives should diplomatically explain to Owners who complain, that they have nothing to worry about, and that what they can hear is the effect of the normal running of the Engine. We would ask Sales Dept. to state to the Experimental Dept. what is the order of urgency of the experiments to try to overcome the fault. Re Miss Cooper's Chassis No.61-MC. - As regards CWB's. suggestion to change the Engine for one of a production Chassis, we wish to make it clear that we have grave doubts about the knock being any better when | ||
