(Dy.{F R Danby} Rly) FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} ORIGINAL SECRET HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ) (At Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence.) ~~Sp{Mr Spinney} to Sq. Ldr. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}~~ JAPAN 3. CLUTCH. N. SCH. 3257. X5480 The thing I like least is the joint between hub and back plate - too much weight that does not help stiffness. Delete features here, and also face not deep enough. Small screws to secure declutching posts might be deleted. Press in tightly if any fear of being loose. Star caulking would be quickly done. [Stamp: XI JUN 1931] The steel boss to the aluminium end plate is fixed by countersunk screws which appear to be tapped into the aluminium and then fitted with a nut. Naturally there are several ways of doing this. A better way than that shewn would be to tap the steel flange, and after screwing up securely and tightening by riveting slightly, the head could be countersunk and left proud, so as to rest on anvil or reduced hexagon. The countersink would save room. I hope you like my simpler equaliser for the thrust. It is not shewn on this drawing. Continue to work in conjunction with Derby to reduce cost. Press together permanently more parts. It is a good and cheap system but less convenient for repairs. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
