Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/Hy{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}2/L10713. July 10th. 1913. EXPERIMENTAL DEPT. "B" Weekly Report. Reports have been sent in on - X.168 - Test of Steering Pivot C.471 X.247 - Track test of Steering Pivot P.3372 X.518 - Vinet Wire Wheel fitted with new detachable rim. Steering Pivots. - (X.168) File The revolving test tackle has now been fitted up in the Experimental Shop and is driven by the piston valve engine. The tests on a pivot are about to begin. I have had the engine of chassis 2300 taken down for examination as it was over-oiling. I find that two of the gudgeon pins have several surface cracks running along them, also that the pins are on the soft side which has caused them to wear more than they should have done. The surface cracks are evidently the result of the rolling of the bars in course of manufacture. The works reject quite a number of gudgeon pins and bars of steel because of these cracks. The bars are not turned at all but are simply ground up from the black. I think we should make the pins from larger diameter | ||
