Information Required on Experimental visit to United States, 1935.

The following is a list of points in which we are particularly interested :-

(1) Gearbox chunking in the drive.
(2) Steering gear irreversibility.
(3) Tyre noise, and the elimination of noises conveyed by the wheels to the chassis in general.

These are the three major problems which should be given preference over anything else.

Other subjects we should like information on are :-

(1) Latest types of engine mounting; particularly any information available which indicates how a very soft mounting could be evolved which does not show up slow running irregularities by allowing the engine to float about in the frame.

(2) Improvement in noise insulation, particularly with reference to dashboard and floorboards.

(3) Optimum induction pipe arrangement for a 6-cylinder engine with a downdraught carburetter, particularly to give slow running.

(4) Means available to prevent percolation when the petrol boils in the float chamber. To what part of the engine is venting carried ?

(5) Water and exhaust heated hot-spots. Do the Americans still maintain that for idling conditions exhaust heated hot spots do not get as hot as water heated hot spots ?
