Power delivered to rear wheels allowing for rear tyre losses and transmission losses :-

40/50 HP. = 54.8 X gear ratio.
20 HP. = 37.71 X " "

Allowing 50 lbs. per ton as an average tractive resistance for a good surface and assuming that the rear tyres which we have taken into account are responsible for 20 lbs. per ton.

Power available for hill climbing :-

40/50 = (54.8 X gear ratio) 30 lbs.per ton.
20 HP. = (37.71 X " " ) 30 lbs.per ton.
