-3- Contd. In each case the result is the average of two tests. From these, heating appears to have practically no bad effect on the dielectric strength. The varnished paper obtained from Symons is undoubtedly the best, the waxed paper being next. From the point of view of production however, Symons waxed paper is better than their varnished paper, owing to the former being more adhesive, which is an advantage in winding ignition coils. Also in the event of the paper being used for condensers as well, the waxed paper would perhaps be more suitable, as it is known from early tests on condensers that the capacity of a condenser with waxed paper as a dielectric, is much less affected by variations in temperature, than that of one with varnished paper. A possible disadvantage of the waxed paper, however, is the low melting point which occurs at about 65°C. EFC/C. A.{Mr Adams} Pignatt. | ||
