WATFORD EW6 MAGNETO NO.106012.

This magneto has a continuous cam ring almost identical with the Lucas, the cams being ground out of the ring.

Although the cams are not ground with a slow make the contact breaker is much quieter than any other EW6 magneto we have had.

After testing the magneto on a chassis in the Test. Dept. however, a knock developed and the magneto rendered quite objectionable. Accordingly we made an experiment on chassis 9-EX with this magneto firstly minus the distributor gear wheel and secondly complete, in an attempt to analyse the noise. In both cases the magneto was tried cold and warmed up by running the engine.

The magneto was found to be O.K. in both cases and considered to be very good both for quietness and electrical performance. Apparently removing and replacing the gear wheel had cured the knock which may have been due to a small particle of dirt or swarf in the gears. The car was taken to the Test Dept. and heard by J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Daykin who also pronounced it quite O.K.

This magneto has been left on the car to see if it redevelops noisiness after a period of running.
