BRAKE DRUM MATERIALS.

Will you please obtain from Leys of Derby quotations for Phantom III. drums in their "Lepaz" Iron on the same basis as the quotations recently obtained from Coneygre etc., and at the same time will you please find out their charge for two sets of drums (8 drums in all).

The Phantom III. is the only car not shortly going to be replaced that has iron drums. The various experiments now being made with new brake drum materials are as follows:-

Material. Reason for Change.

0.5% Carbon Steel. Reduction of "Sponge"

"Chromidium" Iron. Reduction of Cost.

Aluminium. Reduction of weight. (and incidentally "sponge" and cost.)

"Lepaz" Malleable Iron.
