EFC3/AD28.11.29 contd. -2- reported. A number of these machines have been supplied to clients in special cases. They were initiated as a result of our report EFC3/T27.2.28 and your memo R5/M9.3.28. As a result of our EFC2/11.2.29, EFC1/T5.2.29 and your R2/M8.2.29, we put in hand what are known by us as Intermediate Output dynamos. One report on these viz. EFC1/AD5.7.29 has been issued so far. Intermediate output machines are being developed with a view to their becoming standard in preference to the normal output machines. In the S.S. case at least from tests so far made, we shall be able to arrange for the same machine to have two outputs with the same main brush settings but with two different control brush settings. These will be called the "major output" and "minor output" respectively. The major output is intended to cater for clients who would previously have required a higher output machine of the previous type. This output is very nearly as large as the output of the higher output machine, and keeps up relatively better at high speeds. The minor output will be at least equal on the peak to the present normal output of the standard machine and will also keep up relatively better at high speeds. The cutting-in is practically the same in the two cases but is inferior to that of the standard. It is somewhat better than that of the higher output machine. | ||
