RE. DUMMY OF ALPINE SPORTS CHASSIS. X.7770 X.7380 X.7500 X.7390

We have got this dummy at Hooper's and have not found it of any real use to us because it has not got a cast dashboard around which to fit the scuttle armature with the correct clearances, the brake levers are not set in to the right distance from the centre of the chassis, the petrol tank has not got the correct filler on it and therefore we had to remove it in order to get the body on, the pedals are not those belonging to this car although that does not worry us much, and there are no fixed footboards on the dashbrackets.

We will try and manage without the cast dash, although when we come to mount the body on the actual chassis there will probably be trouble in Derby. We can manage with the levers as they are; we shall probably bend them ourselves. We must however have a petrol tank filler of the correct shape, and suggest that you send someone down to fit the tank with such a filler in place of the present one. This is a simple piece to make in that it is only the casting at the base and the vent pipe that are modified. You could probably do this at the same time that you send a man down with the sheet metal wing stays and tool-box step brackets which we are sending you today, and which will have to be fitted to the dummy.

We hope that the second dummy will be ready for Barker's in a day or two, as we are pressing for this body for use during the Prince of Wales' visit, but we suggest that it would save time if the dummy were correct before it leaves Derby, rather than to hurry it down in an imperfect condition.
