To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to RG.{Mr Rowledge} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Sft.{Mr Swift} X.3585 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}6/H28.3.24. RE. CONDOR SERIES 111. X.3632 X.3585 CARBURETTER AND INDUCATION PIPE FIXING. These have been giving a certain amount of trouble with the engines on test. We find that the induction pipes and the water jacketted bends are not interchangeable. This has made our job rather difficult in view of the fact that we have, in order to obtain reasonable distribution, had to make various changes in these pipes. In taking this matter up with the Works there seems to be considerable difficulty in relying on the constructional limits, and we think that some provision should be made for the variation which takes place between the face of the carb. and the joint of the induction pipes leading to the cylinders. We shall be glad if this point can be considered simultaneously with the distribution investigations. We also feel that the bosses of the flanges on the carburetter to which the water heated bends are fixed should be strengthened up, as we have had several of these break, which we agree may be considered due to poor face fitting or over-tight-ening. Our experience is such, however, that this trouble will take place in service, and we do not want at this stage to repeat the experience we had with the breakage of the bosses of the induction pipes where they are attached to the cylinders, and we suggest therefore the lengthening of these bosses should be done immediately. This is a feature which we have no doubt Rg.{Mr Rowledge} will be able to embody in the new modified carburetter. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} | ||
