X 4054 ARRANGEMENT OF CONDENSER D.1682. RECEIVED

Referring to E3/G4621, we are arranging to make the alteration called for, but in connection with proposal number 1, I would like to point out that the sheet insulation used is not material which would come in very accurately normally, and therefore with the insulation as shown on the original scheme the Condenser would not be so liable to be distorted as it would be when the insulation was only used in one clamping plate, whilst in the other case the clamping plate has to make contact with the Condenser cover.

It appears to me that it might be possible to have sufficient distortion to cause cracking in one of the mica plates, if the plate itself had some slight weakness.

However, as pointed out above, we are putting the alteration through, and providing we hear nothing further from you the matter will go into service with the two modifications called for.

In the original scheme, they had not reckoned on obtaining an earth contact with the Condenser Cover, which appears to me to be really unnecessary, but were reckoning on making a good connection on the ends of the terminal to the frame.
