Unless one has experience in these matters, it is advisable either to put this on other hands, or to remove the battery from the chassis for the extra charge. Use of Starter. Careless use of the starter will reduce the life of the battery. Careful use of the starter will make very little difference in its life as compared with the more ordinary lighting demands. If the battery is known to be well up in its state of charge the starter may be used for several times in immediate succession with the certain knowledge that the battery is not being appreciably injured. If at any time the starter appears sluggish in its action and such sluggishness is traceable to the battery, no attempt should be made to use the starter until the battery has had a thoroughly good charge and is brought up again to the gassing condition. If the battery is in good condition it will turn the engine easily. If it will not turn the engine as easily as normally, any attempt to get a start from the battery must at once be abandoned, or otherwise permanent damage to the battery may result. Battery out of use for a short period or despatched a short distance. If the battery at any time is required to be put out of use for a short period, i.e. a period of from say, 2 to 6 months, store the battery in a fully charged | ||
