RE: TREATMENT FOR BEARING TROUBLES.

Attached hereto please find a copy of joint report from Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} and CWH. as called for by Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} and yourself at the last Conference on customers complaints.

I am in agreement with their findings, and would suggest that Kingsbury are instructed to make two more sets of the equipment they produced, and are using, to ascertain the condition of the engine bearings by means of an 'oil flow' test. We find it difficult to get work done under existing conditions at Derby, but Kingsbury assure me they would have no difficulty in reproducing the equipment and if the equipment is identical the experience gained by Kingsbury is available at once for circulation to other Depots.

It would be necessary in order to ensure success that the operators should each spend a week or so at Kingsbury to become familiar with the apparatus and the exact conditions of using same.

I see no advantage in Mod.B as inevitably Mod.C has to be applied, and we have to pay for two refits instead of one, it would be cheaper in every case to apply Mod.C at once. To meet the case where a customer will not leave the car long enough for Mod.C to be carried out, it would be necessary to have a replacement engine available at Kingsbury and Derby.
