To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Y 4694 Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/MJ.9.4.34. 40/50 CHASSIS OUTPUT. We consider the most optimistic date for having the 'SpectreCodename for Phantom III' in production is early in 1936. This means that all our tests have got to be completed, and production material ordered, in about July or August 1935. We want to allow six months for road tests and in addition two months for final proof run. As regards the present Phantom we recommend that we carry out the minimum amount of alterations to this car. It compares at the present time so unfavourably with the modern cars as regards silence and smoothness that we ought not to consider raising the compression or increasing the power output. Referring to the modifications to the Phantom, the only points which the customer gets anything out of are the sheet metal cross member, and automatic tappets. The present tappets fitted to 28-EX. are not sufficiently good to attempt to standardise, but we wish to continue our development of these because they will be necessary on the 'SpectreCodename for Phantom III' and if we can get them satisfactory to go on the Phantom they should be fitted.
