==============

Introduction.

The ever-increasing demands on all vehicles, especially motor-cars, tramcars and lifts, as well as on motors and machines in general, have inspired us to produce a recorder specially designed to determine and record in a practical manner acceleration and braking speeds. For this purpose, it is only possible to use an instrument which will not re-act to any outside influence, such as shocks, vibrations in any direction, variations of temperature, etc. Only instruments with a movement entirely mechanical, based on the principle of measuring the time and the distance traversed, such as our "TEL" apparatus, can be used for this purpose. The "TEL" accelerometer is therefore based on our kinematic movement instruments of which more than 100,000 are in service throughout the world.

Mechanism.

The movement is composed of two distinct parts, one measuring the course traversed, the other measuring time.

The measurement of the road is effected from the driving shaft to the pointer by means of gearing only, it is, therefore, mathematically correct. The time measurement is effected by means of a clockwork movement, the spring of which is re-wound automatically by the driving shaft of the instrument, and, therefore, needs no manual operation. The functions are as follows -

1. - The road measurement commences immediately the vehicle begins to move.

The pointer rises to a value proportional to the distance traversed.

2. - The measuring mechanism is disengaged after exactly one second.

3. - The pointer and the recorder stylus are from that moment maintained in place for one second.
