To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. C. BJ. PN.{Mr Northey} C. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Ds. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} C. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Ox. ORIGINAL AUTOMATIC ELECTRO-MAGNETIC SWITCH FOR REDUCING RATE OF DYNAMO CHARGE. Further to our EFCL/T8.10.26 entitled "Chassis Generator & Regulator Systems", bench tests of the units referred to in the second para. on p.3 of that report have now been completed and their functioning has been passed as satisfactory. Two of these units have been handed over to be fitted one each to a 20 HP. and a 40/50 HP. expl. car, and the other one is being sent to Mr. Royce under separate cover for his inspection, together with the Mentor apparatus referred to below, minus lamp. A blueprint diagram of the unit is attached. These units are made up of distribution board and cutout parts as a matter of convenience, not however suggesting that they would in their present form resemble more than remotely the final design, should such a unit ever be adopted as standard. The objection to the use of this apparatus would apparently be that it is the subject of a patent taken out by Mr. A.H.Midgley - we attach copy of the complete specification for Mr. Royce's perusal. In regard to the actual results, these units have been tested on the bench with both the 40/50 HP. and 20 HP. dynamos and wiring systems, and in the former case simultaneous tests were made of the comparative operation of the Mentor thermally operated high voltage indicator, and also of a | ||
