With reference to whether W.W. or Derby should design a balanced crankshaft from the existing forging, we should like you to do this copying the type of weights shown in Lec.295 making them the width of the web such that two big weights balance about 75% of the crankshaft out of balance per crank. The critical speed should then be about 3900 R.P.M. (i.e. where it is now) if we have 2.800 journals and the wider webs. Should these weights be too large we can reduce the outside diameter.
