June 16th 1936 Messrs.Rolls Royce Ltd, DERBY. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr.Grylls Experimental Dept. ---------- We have today despatched to you, two experimental Pumps for the D.W.S.Hydraulic Jacking system. These pumps contain 3/4" dia plungers. The one pump is of the port type, that is, with a solid plunger and ports cut in the pump body. The other is of the same type as we have been delivering to you for production, apart of course from the dia. of the plunger, that is to say, the plunger contains two ball valves. Both pumps are clearly marked which type they are, namely, "Ball Type" and the other "Port Type" and also 3/4". You will find that the ball type pump is approximately 20% more efficient than the port type, this being due to the lost movement necessary for closing the port, although, you will find that in both pumps the plungers are approximately the same fit. In addition to these two, we are hoping to despatch to you tomorrow, two further pumps with 9/16" dia plungers - one with a safety valve set to blow off at 3000 lbs, and the other with a slack | ||
