C.J.

We got away from Paris on Monday at 4 p.m. after the necessary work on car was done, and stayed at Fontainebleau. Today we drove here. Nothing of interest to report. At intervals of about sixty miles the servo shoes became inoperative and had to be adjusted, although I have never heated up the pulley on this trip. To-night we have taken the ferrodo shoes off, they are worn to about one-third of original section, and put on the Cast Iron shoes. Some difficulty has been experienced owing to a modification in C.I.shoes not having been allowed for; however, we obtained a reamer from a local engineer which enabled us to complete.

The engine is a bit freer (more free) but my previous remarks hold good about power not being materially better than that of 107.MG.

Will Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} consider sending as soon as possible to Nice a new complete carburetter designed for this engine, as apparently this is limiting factor. The clutch will not come to rest properly. Detonations have practically ceased with 20% of benzol.

The overrunning vibrations of engine, felt on steering, which are peculiar from 60 miles p.h. downwards, these seem to be characteristic of this EAC. engine and would be a serious Sales criticism.

Acceleration of engine from 40 to 60 very good.

I propose to stay at Grenoble tomorrow, then Digne, if Passes allow, then Cannes.
