For the attention of Mr.W.E. Shilton.

Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of 28th September 1940, which proved very interesting. We find, on looking back on it, that you consider a temperature of 300° C. to be harmless to your brake linings.

Our experience with B2 and RU linings on leading and trailing shoes respectively, is that fading is bad at this temperature and such treatment is followed by squeaking.

It may be that our methods of temperature measurement are different. However we should be very grateful for figures referring to this fading for a variety of linings, and also a similar set of temperatures for actual burning out.

Yours faithfully,
