Re: 40/50 HP. Chassis - Front Wing Stays.

My dear R,

I recently heard at Derby that they were preparing some front wing stays for 40/50 HP. Chassis and they seemed to be under the impression that S. wished them to do so.

I am not sure how it came about that this was started but as in the past Coachbuilders have been making quite good stays - at any rate, sufficiently good to prevent our receiving any serious complaints - we wish, if possible, to prevent having to supply these with the Chassis as we shall not get paid for them.

They cost £2-9-0. per Chassis and that would represent a loss of £1250. per annum.

So long as the Coachbuilders are supplying with their bodies parts which do not give serious trouble, we want to avoid adding them to our Chassis, as already our Phantom Chassis is costing us £180. more than the 'Silver Ghost' and that at present, represents a loss of £90,000 per annum on the Phantom Chassis alone.

I do not know how this front stay originated but I hope you will agree that the work on it at Derby may now be withdrawn.

Yours ever,

BJ.
