Re Gear Box.

The general working conditions of the gear box has smoothed out during the 10,000 miles. The engagement of the 2nd. gear standing, is obtained 9 times out of 10, with a fairly easy pull, the effort taking from 12 to 14 lbs.; the odd time is when the gear teeth are not opposite. The main trouble is engaging down from 3rd. to 2nd. gear. The engine revs. have to be in the correct ratio to obtain an easy change. This can be obtained practically every time by double clutching; unless the engine revs. happen to be somewhere near right, the synchromesh cone will not synchronise the gears and an engagement cannot be obtained. The change speed lever comes up solid after the first movement, and no further amount of pulling is effective. This applies to various speeds of the car. The side shaft gears have for some reason become as quiet as standard.
