Indre. 9.10.33. GEAR BOX The oil leak from the brake actuating shaft through the gear box has been practically cured by the fitting of a baffle plate at the end of the bearing. It is a similar job as is done on the servo shaft in the gear box, RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} did the job and can give you details. It costs practically nothing and is worth fitting, so far the servo has been kept perfectly free from oil on the outside. CLUTCH The over run period does not seem so consistently noticeable. It probably will gradually disappear. ENGINE Up to the present we have had no indication that the valves are being affected by the use of lead in the petrol. The loss in the clearance is no more than what we have had previously. RE CAMSHAFT BALANCE There has been no repetition of that dull thud we heard prior to leaving Derby and we have not noticed any other ill effects. PROPELLER SHAFT WITH NEEDLE TYPE BEARING There is no indication of any wear in the bearings. The rear joint leaks oil from one of the leather packings. The lubricator fouled the floor board during one of the runs, making it leak oil. We had to replace it. EXHAUST SYSTEM Up to present the spring anchorage of the exhaust system has been satisfactory. The cutout has had to be adjusted once to prevent it rattling. Handwritten Signature: G.W.Hancock. Typed: G.W.H. | ||
