X7420 To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rml/LG22.9.26. STEERING TESTS. X7420 X7430 With reference to the further tests to be carried out on the vertical pivot axle. We wish to try the castor pivots fitted up on this axle arranged to give a horizontal stub axle. We should however like to retain the present pivots fitted up without castor which give a horizontal stub axle and which we have already tested, as these are useful for purposes of comparison. At the present moment we are testing the castor pivots on the standard axle. As opportunity occurs, we wish to convert all the rear hydraulic dampers at present fitted to experimental cars to 60 lbs. upward load and 80 lbs. downward load. All the dampers should have any experimental parts removed (such as under-cut liners) and should be filled with compressed oil.
