Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}13/R.30.6.39. We attach a summary of the work done on the Continental unit and car prior to it leaving for the Continent. The final weight of the car complete with oil and water and the cast iron drums (which were fitted before its departure) was 34 cwts. 0 qrs. 21 lbs. I think we have achieved a very remarkable result in providing an exceedingly roomy 4-door saloon with adequate luggage capacity, having a relatively small displacement 6-cylinder engine, which is very economical to run, and the car to be capable of lapping Brooklands in standard trim at over 100 m.p.h. with a reasonable compression ratio, and will run on any standard fuel and without the aid of a cutout. We think it is most advisable to reserve the information we have recently obtained with regard to tyres as we shall need this for advertising purposes. We anticipate that using the same compression ratio as we did on the Paulin, an outside air intake and freer exhaust system, we should have no difficulty in inducing this car to lap Brooklands at 115 M.P.H. prior to the Motor Show.
